Meeting Mosaka (Mo) Williamson was one of the highlights of
Socially Superlative's first anniversary party held on June 23rd at
Inc Lounge. The site covers parties, fashion shows and cultural events as well as posts upcoming events for the socially invested set. Mo, the Editor in Chief and co-founder of Socially Superlative, along with Yvonne Lee, was surprisingly, to me at least, a woman who echoes some of my identity characteristics. Very exciting. We began speaking about the launch of the site and how it came about. Ladies and gentlemen, hold your breath, it started as a hobby! Her original blog was hosted on blogger and after growing so rapidly it was decided to create "her own thing". That's what it is to want to do your own thing and have the motivation to do it.
The event had a great cast of characters including April Torres of
Isabella Grace Originals, Mo Darling of
Smashing Darling, Eli- The expertly dressed pooch, and owner of
Ivy Bakery, Christine, to name a few.
What drew me even more to this event is that proceeds from a suggested donation gift bag were collected to be given to City Harvest, an organization close to my heart.
I wouldn't be true to myself ifI didn't also say that I had a moment of pride in my heart when Mo walked up to me and I saw that she was a beautiful brown woman. It makes me glad to see someone, like me (read: non-size 2, brown and doing what makes them happy) in a place of importance. I know i'll probably sound cliche, but, you go girl!
